Hey Brian,
I had the ocassion to ride three or four days in the Del Ray Beach area north to Palm Beach on A1A. I would recommend that you start and ride early early. We rode at 6:30 am to avoid the elderly drivers that can occasionally become confused. Also It is helpful in avoiding dump trucks that do the ritual lanscaping for the rich up the coast. A1A is a fairly narrow two lanes. They are supposedly adding bike lanes, not sure how far north yet. There is a great little restaurant that is along the water near Lake Worth that serves a great breakfast. Ask some of the locals. Their specialty is French Toast with almonds. How does that sound?
There are many groups that ride A1A, so you should not have any trouble hooking up with riders on 1983 and earlier racing bikes.
