Of late, bought a pink Mercier for an outlandishprice, in spite of already owning a pink Mercier racing bike. This one is special, unlike any Mercier I've seen before. Hand built. Really impressive bike. Should go down a trea t in SoCal where a friend tells me a lot of guys have a thing about pink bi kes ?
Usual story, a guy claims he got it off a factory mechanic, but I believe t his one did actually come from that source. The bike dates 1974. In those d ays, pro riders didn't own their bikes. And at the end of the season, it wa s a frequent occurence for a team mechanic to be given a bonus: a pro bike.
Whatever, it is my size, so it will get ridden. And identifying it should b e a feasable job. Not too sure about the "it's brand new never ridden" stor y I was fed, looks to me like it has been used a bit. Could have been perio d refinished. Or not...
