Despite what any British Bike Enthusiast may say, and contrary to common belief and company name, BH is actually short for BH ttcpp (Be Happy till the chrome pits and peels).
BH's "Airlite" hub were so named because, as it ages, its gets lighter (as the chrome peels off the barrell).
This is unlike their all steel, Solite hubs (so-named because they were not So Light) but were, at least, properly chromed.
And unlike their all aluminum non-anodized "Racelite" hub which was probably their last project before shutting down or moving on. So, if you got your hands on a BH 3-piece hub with clean chrome on the barrel, hang on to it. They are few and far between, especially if the logo still shows. BH logos were notoriously shallow, so they got buffed out prior to rechroming. If the logo shows, that means the hub is in "original" condition.
I've got a few of these, and all need rechroming or paint. Yet another project.
