FWIW - I have a fixie conversion bike without a lockring even. Works just fine for regular riding including trackstands and an occasional 3-point turn when I can pull it off... but I have both front and rear brakes on that bike, don't do skid-stops, and of course am no track pro (I doubt the original poster is either, but I could be wrong of course).

(And if one wants to split hairs - it's hard to use a BB lockring on a track hub simply because the threading would be wrong ....)
