It's probably safe to assume the number indicates the
year of manufacture, but I wouldn't draw any
conclusions about what the letter means. From
http://www.vintage-trek.com/
"Unfortunately, the 'code' book is now lost so we cannot decipher the actual codes used at that time. It is, sadly, not quite as simple as A=January, B=February etc."
"The metal frames of the saddles were stamped with the date of manufacture from sometime in the 1960s to about 1988."

>Dear CR list,
>Robbie Fellows asked about a need to place a date on
a Brooks B17
>saddle with the stamp markings of: A 73.
>Robbie and fellow list members I think it would be
safe to say that the
>saddle was made in early 1973.
>Does that fit with the looks of the saddle Robbie?
>Usually I've only seen those types of date codes on
the older BROOKS
>saddles.
>Good luck!
