I have done several saddles and my method is quite unorthodox. I take a good heavy set of neoprene gloves and after donning them I will soak a rag in lacquer thinner. I then vigorously rub the saddle which removes most dirt, grease, oil and other pollutants plus most of the leather dye. Yep, the dynamo method of cleaning. With the same set of gloves donned I then apply the appropriate leather dye. Let the first application dry for a few minutes before buffing with a clean white cotton rag. Repeat the application of leather dye and then buff again. I then apply my favorite conditioner (not ever Lexol or Neatsfoot Oil) but Skidmore's leather conditioner. I have purchased what appears to most, beat to crap Brooks Pro saddles and made them look NEW!!

Horse people take really good care of there saddles. This kind of infor is a little hard top come by in San Francisco, but I'll see what I can do.
