Just thought everyone would be interested in the consensus input of those who responded to my question about the lightest brakes from the 70s.
The CLB compact pros recommended by Hilary are certainly the lightest, but they may be out of my timeline, not to mention that they probably wouldn't work on the bike in question, clearances are somewhat wider than the brake could handle, I'm thinking.
The CLB pro from the 70s was also recommended, and I could see using those.
Richard Cielec had an interesting recommendation: Weinmann 500 with Campagnolo return springs and better pads, polish them up for some bling.
One poster included a catalog page from, I think it was palo alto bikes, listing weights for some period brakes. The Galli titanium actually came in lighter than the CLB pros and the Weinmanns. I have a pair of these, so I may use them, although the CLB and the modified W500s also appeal.
Thanks to all who posted!
Now, if only I could happen upon one of those OMAS lightening kits at a swap meet for 5 bucks..<g>
