Thanks to all for the advice - I am pleased to say that it has been a "honking" success (although not all that easy - the expletives did help). Using a combination of heating the rubber in hot water and then applying some "personal lubricant" I have one hood on and it fits just fine. Will post pictures of the whole refit once done.
