If my memory serves me right somebody was asking about a 43 Idéale saddle. At the risk of geting flamed for being slightly wrong, Idéale farmed out a load of work to some factory at one point, and the 43 was made with Idéale stamping, and with stamping of just about any other name you can think of, from big bicycle makers to smalltime saddle dealers. Although the model can be found under a number of names, the common point is that whatever they are called, the number is 43.
There is an "underlay" of some sort of fiberboard/cardboard or I don't know what. This I imagine was to maintain shape whilst allowing the use of thinner leather. This part of the saddle gets very fragile with age, and care needs to be taken oiling the saddle, or the cardboard sogs and collapses.
