I too own a EG Bates from the early 60's and absolutely love it. It's my Sunday drive bike. I have included a link to some photos of her in this email.

The bike has had a few upgrades since those photos were taken, including the proper M.A.F.A.C. levers and a nice Berec fork mounted torch. I'm still looking for a nice HF 32h Airlight front hub.
The serial number, G1653 is located on the left rear drop out. Apparently, EG Bates is the brother of the more widely known Horace Bates and the EG Bates shop just closed a few years ago. If you receive additional information about EG Bates bikes please pass it along as i am always looking for additional info.
