World championship stripes?
>From my experience in the bike trade over here in the UK there where many frames being turned out in the 70s that had 'world champ' bands as part of the colour scheme.

For example Ken Bird frames used them a lot, usually on a pure white frame, and at Bob Jackson's we used to fit them almost as standard to certain models. I certainly can remember at least two of my own bikes having the stripes [Bob Jackson's]

Did any world champions ride Bob Jackson's? I recall frames being made for Beryl Burton and Reg Harris, but of course they had alternative names on the frame. Ian Hallam? not quite a world champ, but could have been [controversial result after the German squad crashed out!]

I don't think there was the sense of importance to the stripes being used on the frames, not in the same way as on jerseys, Anyone remember the simplistic, but classy looking 'Bantel' team jersey? all black with world champ trim on the collar and cuffs, of course they where entitled to this privilege thanks to Hugh Porter, but then you could argue and say it should have been only Hugh that wore the bands!

food for thought?
