At Dale's request, a story of visiting Masi's shop in the Vigorelli in
the early 80s. But it is not my story but my wife's. So a little
introduction for her. When I first met Barbara, at the University of
Montana, she told me of her Raleigh three speed she had at home in New
Jersey. After we married I got an old Schwinn Sting Ray and together we
completely refurbished and repainted it and sold it to a family in need
of a bike. She was hooked. Soon after we moved to Fairbanks Alaska. She
went into the first bike shop we came to and the haggled owner offered
her a job on the spot after she indicated her interest. He had been
working a full time job and trying to keep the shop open at the same
time. She went on to manage a large bike shop for 6 years. She also is a
State of Alaska road racing champ.
In her stable is the Masi of the story, a Bob Jackson touring bike and
bikes of other materials we won't talk about.
