You are absolutely right, racers build for speed at most any cost. The 70's were full of drillium that didn't make it to the finish line. But I meet new riders to the sport quite often that don't know how to change a flat. They have a full decked out carbon rig that someone recommended to them. Were they told that the carbon components should be changed out every two years? Would these folks be ultimately happier with a steel bike with durable components that might last a lifetime?
