Eric (and take the CF topic somewhere else too) Meddaugh said... well he said just that.
For the record, I, for one, was looking at the evolution of ALLOY bars, and hoping to show that not all that is new is divorced from what is on topic. Frankly, I'm sick of all the generalizations about all things modern and would appreciate if people were more willing to consider the interconnectedness of the on-topic and contemporary eras. Instead many cling to this Cartesian notion that everything is either "classic" or "newfangled hype." Some thoughtful and informed opinions to suport this would be oh-so-great, but all I hear is brainwashed partyline "it all breaks, and it will all be dust in 10 years." On what basis? And if so, so what, if it serves it's purpose today? Race bikes are made for racing... for a season or a few, not to be colleceted and ridden for decades, even if that can be done and is done by CR members, including me. The way most of us ride we can do the same with 2.5 pound CF bikes too, with no fear of failure. It's cool that we chose to do this with old bikes and not new, but this hobby and it's de facto reliance on what's mistaken for decade-scale durability, but is really non-use, has nothing to do with design requirements for race bikes, whether the year is 1958 or 2008.
