I am new to this list and think this is a perfect subject to start with. If I had only one, it would have to be my Schwinn Volare'. Great Reynolds tubed "all rounder". Bought it "restored" about 17 years ago to replace a Mercian that was damaged in an incident. Put the Phil hubs, bb and pedals on it and never looked back. It was originally intended to be my commuter, but when the first long (1600 km) tour came up I gave it a try and tour on nothing else. Great smoooooth yet responsive ride for a tall loaded bike ridden by a 88 kilo rider. An added benefit is the Schwinn head badge that reduces the attractiveness for a lot of thieves. Of course the chipped paint adds to that. Get lotsa comments on group rides ranging from "is that classic" to "looks like its been hit".
