A few companies make/made a cleat that I find to be a perfect solution to D on's problem: A traditional slotted cleat (for use with a platform/toeclip/strap set up) AND a Look 3-hole bolt pattern. This enables you to put an "old school" cleat on any new cycling shoe that has a Look drilling...Gettin' the best of both worlds! I have some made by French company Rivat. They are also currently made by Yellow Jersey in Madison, Wisconsin. Their website says that a new and improved design will be available next month:

Anybody ever try these?
