Hi Crew,
The said Colnago Mexico Oro was somewhat of a steal, but many factors
must be considered. Probably one of the main factors in the final price
was that it was listed in Euros and was from Germany. Most ebay eagles
know that British pounds, Euros and Ozzie dollar sales dont attract as
much attention from US centric buyers as the greenback listed sales.
The bike does not have unobtanium components and the stem has
personalised engraving...although the frame more than makes up for this.
The earlier Mexico Oro with the flat fork crown and plated BB shell is
more desirable. This 1982 frame has the black enamelled BB shell.
In it's day, the Oro finsh was only a few hundred Lire extra than a
painted finish, although the Mexico frame was nearly half as much again
as the Super, which in turn was more expensive than the Saronni variant.
What I like about it is the condition of the finish as most Colnago Oros
look pretty rough if they havent been carefully handled and kept. The
later Mexico Gilco tube fluting comes into effect with this finish and
little niceties such as the Assos rims and alloy Campy freewheel are
just a bonus.
This baby will go to a good home and will be spoiled with some nice
Colnago components which were options of the day.
Photos will be posted upon arrival and component tweaking.
