Charles Andrews used the word "philistine," Jerry Moos said "barbarian." I can't say that I disagree entirely, but it's hard for me to imagine that provoking this sort of response from old men isn't part of the thrill of doing what this vulgarian has done. Wait, did I say that? I guess I just added to his jollies. Maybe I overestimate people's sense of irony and their rebelliousness, but I honestly think that offending the sensibilities of conservative collectors is part the appeal here. Of course, if he knows what that bike might have been worth before he had his way with it, he might not be feeling so good about his little project. Then again, maybe he's well aware of the original bike's value, has very loving parents, and just doesn't care. In that case the demolition derby Testa Rosa is an apt comparison, even if somewhat exaggerated. Maybe more a beer-bongs-of-Petrus thing.
