Hello Mike,

I did it last year. I played it safe and used Pasella 32mm clinchers. I was glad that I did, the wider profile of the tire allowed me ride over the pot holes, deep sandy sections, ruts and washboard ripples that challenge the riders on the blancha strada. I had no flats and if I did, a repair would be relatively easy and safe. Lots of riders did use sew-ups and I was tempted to use them on the Cinelli, but the thought of flating and replacing a tire would marginalise my safety as mounted spares never seem to be on the rim as securely. There are lots of descents and climbing that would give a spare an opportunity to roll.....ouch!

In either case, you'll be in good company and have a great time as we did.
