Subject: [CR]Dallas Texas Vintage Ride - all details finalized

Well, I say all details are finalized, but are they really ever finalized t ill the end of the event? Anyways, here's what you will want to know if yo u are thinking of participating:

Time: Sunday June 8th about 9am.Place: Celebration Park, Allen Tx. Distanc e: approx 35mi, with option of shorter route. Pace: approx 16mph average

Ride start location map: http://maps.google.com/maps?f=q&hl=en&geocode =&q=celebration+park,+allen,+tx&ie=UTF8&ll=33.107468,-96.62703&spn =0.004062,0.007274&t=h&z=17

I plan to be in the West parking lot, along Malone Rd. Dark Gray GMC, with a Gazelle (white or blue depends on if I get the new one ready to go in ti me or not) in the back. I'll be there fairly early, probably by 8:15am.

Looks like we have a strong candidate for a ride route: http://www.mapmyrid e.com/ride/united-states/tx/allen/821408158978 The planned route is currently right at 35mi, nearly all of the roads are r egularly traveled by the Plano Bicycle Association on their weekly rides so there should not be any surprises as far as traffic and road conditions. All the same I plan to drive (or ride) the route soon. The only question i s up in New Hope, depending on one road's surface we may extend the route a mile or so detour around that.

First 15 miles of the route are on suburban city streets, but nice quiet on es. Multilane each way, easy to ride 2-abreast so we can chat and have a g ood time, low speed limits. The second half of the ride will get us out on more rural roads outside of McKinney, up into New Hope and then back down through Allen before returning to Celebration Park. Sunday morning traffic should be very light on all of these roads, but there will be some areas w here it would be best to ride single file. At least when we have cars pass ing.

If we have enough riders who want to take a shorter route, there is an opti on that would probably end up with about 20-22 miles or so. Haven't mapped that yet to be sure. The ride will be a No-Drop ride, we're out there to h ave fun, it's not going to be a race by any means.

There will be at least one rest stop, probably another short one if we have riders wanting to take the shorter option so we can organize the split of the groups and ensure someone on the shorter route knows the roads back. I will be printing plenty of maps and cue sheets. There has been a fair amo unt of interest in the ride from my club, Plano Bicycle Association, so the re will be a number of people on the ride who are familiar with the roads.

Feel free to contact me if you have any questions, comments, or suggestions . I welcome anyone who wants to come out to join the ride.
