Hi all,
Today I bought a bike that I thought was a 1970's Torpado. It has the sa
me lugs and lug windows, 1960-70's style Torpado script on the down tube, t
inted lacquer over chrome finish, and all the bits and pieces that make a T
orpado a Torpado. But then I took another look and saw that something wasn'
t quite right - it's not a Torpado but instead a Torpedo. This makes me thi
nk back to a year ago when I spotted what looked like a Peugeot UO8 from th
e early 70's except it was branded "Helium". The Helium bike had the Peugeo
t lion on the head tube, checker band around the down tube, and the same bl
ock style script as Peugeots from the same time. The Helium bike did in fac
t have a very small decal on the seat tube that said "Manufactured by Peuge
ot". So this brings me to my question - What other on-topic manufacturers p
roduced bicycles in large numbers and allowed them to be branded as somethi
ng else?
Although it's technically not a lightweight, for the sake of discusion of m
anufacturers and branding I offer the photos that can be seen here
