Mike

I rode the event in 2006 and 2007. Plenty of riders will use Tubbies. Make sure your rims are sturdy and wheels well built. Depending upon distance you choose, a good percentage of the ride is on the white roads. Basically hard packed dirt with ruts and loose gravel in some areas. I rode on a pair of bomb proof, 40 spoke Phil Wood/Mavics one year and 36 spoke count Campy/Campy the second year. My tires were 700x35c Conti Top Tours and 700x32 Vittoria Randos on the 2007 ride. Both worked fine.

Bottom line is I preferred a solid wheel with clinchers.

Have fun
