I remember making the leap from a Varsity to a Peugeot UO-8. The difference- even though both were pretty low end "10 speeds" in their time- was night and day. The Peugeot was exponentially more fun to ride. Once you'd ridden even a low-end Euro "10 speed" there was no going back to a Varsity.
