I've looked at the photos of your Peugeot PX 10. Did you get just a frame or a complete bike?? The formula of "repaint or conserve" adds a third a category: restoration. Which, to me, means the present owner will purchase the period correct original components to complete the project. Having said that, the shift lever clamp damage definitely needs immediate conservation.
