I just took in this bike on consignment and thought I would offer it to CR
members first. I would have kept it but for the size. It is an early 60s
Bianchi Competizione size 58 cm to the top, with 57 top tube. Perfect bike for
L'Eroica. THE GOOD: No Rust. It lived in a dry climate its whole life.
Neat Italian blue color (are you tired of Celeste?) Excellent chrome and
decals, Columbus tubing, "integrated" headset in great shape. Campy 151 bcd cranks
(177.5 length with ) in great shape. NR undated rear derailleur. No-Record
hubs dated 1962, smooth. Record front derailleur and shifters, Ambrosio bar
and stem, Universal centerpulls, Lyotard Berthet pedals, Record post in
great shape. THE BAD: Super Champion clincher rims (fine for a later bike),
Italia cushy saddle, green tires, duck tape brake hoods, Suntour freewheel,
scratches on frame here and there. Needs an overhaul. Rear skewer is curved,
pulleys are cracked. THE UGLY: top tube was repainted black. Perfectly
rideable as is, but if I were keeping it I would shine up the chrome, repaint
only the top tube, and maybe touch up the worst scratches at the same time,
overhaul everything, rebuild the hubs onto some nice sewup rims, and add a Regina
freewheel and a Unicanitor or Brooks saddle. Then it would be a superb
riding, great looking, marginally restored collector worth a bundle. Asking $800
as is pre-ebay, plus boxing $50 and shipping, or pick it up here. I am
leaving for ten days on Saturday so if replying after that, you might as well
hold off until I get back on the 11th. Here are flickr pics of the bike.
