On the fork blades there is a hole about two inches down from the crown. What is this hole for?
Good question. Those holes are on both sides of the fork as well as the s eat stays and are for mounting Resilion cantilever brakes. I think all of t he early Thanets had these holes, as well as holes in the fork crown and st ay bridge for mounting conventional brakes. Here's a bike with Resilion bra kes:
