I'm with Joe here. I've use Tressostar, Velox, Cateye, etc and Cateye is the best all round. Cloth tape is difficult to "bend" as it is, Cateye seems to have the best stretch qualities off all the brands I've tried. Sugino 75 and Viva (which could very well be the same) are nice as well. Once it's on, no one will not what brand it is, and if you are turely worried about ruining your Tressostar, maybe practice with another brand first.

A couple other things I do with cloth that seem to work well and help the aesthetics are, Start from the sleeve and work your way down to the ends. "Figure 8" around the levers so you don't need an extra piece. And finally, if you want to minimize overlap, shellac is a good option since it's glue like properties help the tape stay in place an minimize slipping. If you don't like the glossy, you can always finish it off with some matte spray.
