Thanks Patrick (and Steve)and welcome to the CR list.
I would like to comment about your words above and a few other references I have read recently from CR members about perceived elitism and folks thinking that they have to have a fancy bike to be accepted, yada yada...
While many of us have exotic and rare high end bikes, I think I can safely say, after having attended many Cirques (Many? ALL!!) and one Velo Rendezvous, this group is almost uniformly interested in any and all old handmade bikes; I have seen no snobbery at all! I think people who just get into it feel a bit insecure when they hear about and see these wonderful bikes, but rest assured, we all started in a mild way, with modest bikes, and then the disease took over!!? Some become more nutty about the bikes than others, but we appreciate the cheap thrills as well as the I-shouldn't-be-buying-this!
Just relax, listen and learn. And enjoy!!!
Cheers Dale

Hey Steve,
Nice to meet you. I guess I'll piggyback on your email, because I am
also new to the list. and while I don't own anything super old and cool, I
do have what I consider a pretty nice mid 80's Raleigh(not top of the line
by any means but nice).

I am also working on a old Mercier Mixte for my wife, nothing high end, but it's a cheap thrill. I'm 33 years old, and last year got back into biking. With the late, great Sheldon Brown's help I was able to learn a bit about how bikes work and how to keep them working. anyways, This is a really cool group of people, and hopefully I can contribute in some small way.
Thanks!
