Jon Spangler asked about alternatives to the Stronglight 93/104 series, and Bill Talbot suggested the Stronglight 99. I've <snipped> their messages for conciseness, and suggest one moderately priced alternative:
The SR, which is an exact clone of the Stronglight 99. The rings may or may not be softer than true 99 rings (I have some horribly worn ones), but the look is good, and all of the SR versions use the industry-standard 22x1 mm puller. The early 99s use the older, hard-to-find Stronglight (23.35x1, I think), which nothing else fits. I'm actually using an SR on my off-topic bike friday, because its narrow tread packs well, and had great service from that system on a trip for L'Eroica last year.
