Re: French freewheels:
Could you take a french body and remove the cogs. After removing the
usually "corn cob" style cogs replace them from an English threaded freewhe
el with less agressive gearing. Of course the freewheels would need to be t
he same manufacturer. The cogs are likely the same, only the hub threading
is likley to be different. I rarely ever get rid of anything original and h
ave several sets of French thread sew-up rimmed wheels. I remember in Colle
ge riding sew-ups for a year on my PX-10 with only one flat when I careless
ly ran over some branches in my path. Of course I was riding fairly heavy
training tires with a diamond tread. This was just before the availability
of high pressure cloinchers in 700C sizes.
I only wish I had some Winner or 888 French bodies. I have a lot of
varioius Sun Tour Cogs. I do not recall if SunTour ever made French threade
d bodies.
Does anyone know if Sun tour ever made French threaded Winners or 88
8s?
