Hi. One of the great things about a traditional spoked wheel is you can use spoke tension to correct for radial and lateral irregularities in the rim. I like for my wheels to be round, I don't much care if the spokes have exactly the same tension. Obviously a rim which is seriously out of plane or concentricity will require some spokes to be massively overtensioned and others undertensioned to make it round. Such a wheel is not viable on the road and should be recycled. But the wheelbuilders job is to make the roundest wheel possible w/ what comes from the manufacturer, not passively accept inherent imperfections as holy writ. billy ketchum; Chicago, IL; USA
