Matthew,

I faced a similar problem when restoring an Eddy Merckx last year, and came up with a solution that worked well and looks kinda cool (if I may say so myself.)

I used an old pair of Campy shifter backing plates with the stops on them. I flipped them around so the stops pointed towards the head tube, and trimmed off the stop ear. Then I took a pair of bent shift levers, removed the lever part so all that was left was the barrel, smoothed them out and polished them up, and mounted them on the boss with screws, since there is no need for the wing nut adjuster. See them here:

If one would like to install Campagnolo barcons on an "on-topic" bike equip ped with braze-on shifter bosses, what "period" options are available as far as downtube cable stops go? I have used clamp-on cable stops on bikes without braze-ons but I'm not sure I have seen an early 80's cable stop for the bosses. Do they exist? And do you have some that might somehow make t heir way to Brooklyn?
