Readily removable "race blades" from Planet Bike get no respect. I disagree. The elastic strapping and hold-down mechanism is effective. (Perhaps others' are as good.) Even set up with little clearance, I spend little time correcting lateral slippage. Which is as nothing compared to the inconvenience of rebending fixed fender stays if you transport your bike without protective wheels in place, and damage ensues.
Further, it is simple matter to rivet or glue an extension on the front fender to provide more coverage. And behind the seatpost? No easier place to afix protective skirts or fender that remains in place. Consult classic and contemporary English, Dutch, and German bikes, which for many years have appreciated that the upper rear triangle bikes is better off shrouded than bare.
Is moving to Bend, OR not another option?
