This is really interesting because back in the days when dinosaurs ruled the earth (like 1974) I remember Spence Wolf saying "Singer" (pronounced like the 33 1/3 LP). Sing-er.
Something I've noticed over the last few years is that newcomers to the sport have a adopted a heavy European-ized mode of pronounciation especially when naming bike components, perhaps to make their bikes sound more refined and pretensious.
"Mavic" is now pronounced "Mah-Veek"
"Campagnolo" Record is now pronounced "Cahm-pagnolllo Re-CORD"
And of course "Singer" has morphed into "San-Jay". For those who even get what it is and wonder why it does'nt have a FSA carbon crank.
I think some wine snobs do the same thing, affecting an accent rife with snobbery, thinly veiled as mere pretension, in direct proportion to price.
