Super Bowl Sunday--the best day of the year for road cycling if your weathe r permits.  Let's take the wayback machine:  SB Sunday, 1983 and '84.   Two friends who I will not name to protect the guilty suggest that th e three of us ride over Portland's Fremont Bridge--an elevated freeway brid ge that crosses the Wilamette River.  It is and was then possible to ente r Interstate 5 on one particular onramp and climb up and over the bridge by staying to the right on the onramp's shoulder, which tracks one directly onto the westbound elevated portion of the Fremont.   The game was bei ng played on the west coast that year; there were three hours of daylight left when the second quarter started, our arranged meeting time.  We sta rted in southeast Portland about three miles from our objective, rode t hrough desolate streets on a beautiful winter afternoon, and stopped at the peak of the bridge for the view.  Two of us were enthusiastic photograph ers at the time but--NEITHER OF US BONEHEADS BROUGHT A CAMERA ALONG!  A  fourth party, brought alone by rider #3, did take pictures of us in tw os and threes at the bridge summit, before we descended into northwest Port land and a loop through the West Hills.  I don't remember the fourth ride r's name.  The other two I'll keep quiet about to spare their reputations as law-abiding citizens. CR content: Ride was done, both years, on a Jim  Holly Griffon, a Bertin C-35, and a couple of lugged steel Treks.
