I really don't know if I'm a CR rider or not. I have some "on topic" bikes. I have some transition bike which due to year limits are "off topic" but are still set up with down tube friction shifting. I have some totally modern bikes. Where does that leave me? Proud that I can ride anything. As they say in the South "I ain't scared" of down tube shifting. Or gluing up some tubs. Wrapping bars. Packing hubs. Building up a wheel. Quill platforms and straps. 5 speed freewheels with big jumps. Or the 52 x 42. Just dig a little and up and over you go.
I'm amazed at the fear many newer riders have of their bikes. The smallest creak or click or clunk and they worry all day and run to the shop to have it "looked" at.
There are some nice advances in materials and components. But it doesn't mean a thing if you don't know proper technique. And I mean from spinning to pace line manners.
So we are lucky we can ride anything.
