So - on the famous mystery bike I am buiding- I bought Universal 61 center pulls, only to realise that the set that I bought was one short reach and one medium reach brake - and that only medium to long reach calipers would fit on my bike ( I now have a great set of Short reach Universal 61 calipers if anyone wants to make a reasonable offer ) - Anyway - on the medium reach brake calipers, using 700c rims, I have to lower the pads down to almost the bottom in order to meet the rim - would it have been normal on frames of this age (late fifties-early sixties) to need such long calipers? or was there a common larger diameter rim that was used at the time?
