Subject: [CR] Colnago Mexico vs. Super

I concur with the recent comments by John Murray regarding the Colnago Mexi co model vs. the Super. I have a 1975 Mexico, 1978 Mexico, 1979 Mexico, an d 1978 Super. There are no obvious visual differences between the Mexico a nd Super models. I believe the first year of the Mexico designation was 19 75. This bike does not have brazed on top tube brake cable guides. The ot hers all have two brazed on guides, which I think began in 1977. Also, the y all wear the same Columbus frame tube sticker. Curiously, I am dead cert ain that the 1975 bike has original paint and decals and it is wearing the later style Columbus decal (it does not look like a replacement sticker) I have not seen a Mexico with any special Columbus SP or whatever frame tube decal. Ray Dobbins mentioned that he thought the chain stays were crimped on the Mexico. However, non of mine have crimped chain stays. Crimped tu bing was used starting in about 1981 or so on the model initially called th e Nuovo Mexico, and later just shortened to Mexico. Period literature from BikeCology lists different weights for the Mexico and Super framesets, wit h the Mexico model slightly lighter. Otherwise the frames appear to be vis ually similar in the period literature.

Coincidentally, I am selling the 1979 Mexico on E-bay. I hate to do it, bu t, does a guy really need three late '70's Mexicos?? Here is the link:

Also, a nice Basso, and a later Colnago Master-x-light. Anyone need an espr esso machine?
