Subject: [CR] Pictures: Thanet Silverlight, Stalen Ros Meet

Some new pictures are up on wooljersey.

First my son Johannes took some snaps at last Sunday´s Stalen Ros (Steel Horse) meet in Neerkant, Holland. They are personal impressions

and might be interesting for some of you.

Next, I uploaded some pictures of my latest acquisition, a 1949 Thanet

Silverlight which could best be described as an "older restauration", meaning that there are many incorrect parts and that it has seen some use since it was done. Still, I´m quite pleased that I was able to buy

the bike as it seems to offer a sound basis for a restauration and as it is very different from my other Silverlight. Anyway, how often is one offered an SL at all? In my 20-odd years of collecting my score is

four, the first of which I sold to finance #2 and the third of which I

refused because the price was very high.

I invite opinions on some questions: Could the Bluemels mudguards be period correct? And: Given that the brake shoes are where they are, could the frame have been built for 27 x 1 1/4 wheels? Also, as it originally had no chrome (A-finish), should I leave the nicely done but

unoriginal chrome on (to which I would say yes)? What derailleur could

have been used? Simplex? I have not found the time yet to check the gear hanger on the d/o end, sorry.

Please remember that my computer is on analogue internet and DO NOT send e-mail attachments or photos. Thanks.

The albums can be found at http://www.wooljersey.com/gallery/theilmeit. You

then go to the last two albums on page four.
