I would suspect that many got handed down to lesser teams and were run until the engine blew or the bodywork was shortened a bit too much. Cars are not treated kindly ;) Nowadays many cars are run on a leasecontract, so they go back to the leasecompany after the lease expires or the team folds, whichever soonest
