Back in the 70s Super Champion Mod 58 rims were my favorites. Strong, round easy to build and they stayed true. Rigida 1622 rims were never even a close second. They were hard to build and get round. I never cared for Mavic clincher rims until the MA2s came along.
I just finished assembling a classic early 60s Paragon (not a Paramount). I put on a set of wheels with polished Sun CR13II rims on Campy NR low flange hubs. From 5 feet they look like vintage rims. They look great on that bike.
I have a pile of dark anodized wheels with MA40 rims. They're fine for 1980s bikes but I prefer silver rims on older bikes. MA2s are getting very scarce and expensive.
BTW, I put on a set of the new Panaracer Pasella TG 700x23C tires on the Paragon. I'm very happy with these tires so far. They have a nice soft, smooth ride for a 23mm tire.
