I believe that Sanshin (Sunshine) ProAm hubs were NOT ALWAYS top of the line. At times I think they were 2nd from the top. In some years the ProAm had the campagnolo-NR-type locknuts with loops, suggesting top-of-the-line, but so did Shimano 600 hubs in 1977. In other years Sanshin ProAm hubs had big chunky locknuts that look downright department-store.

I have NOS ProAm low-flange and NOS Sanshin Professional High-Flange hubs, and the latter seem to be the same thing as Suntour Superbe (and maybe even 1st-generation Dura Ace hubs, before Shimano got into manufacturing such things on their own, perhaps?) They look spectacular. Sanshin Professional hubs I'm certain are top of the line. They are anodized in a misty white finish. My ProAm hubs are anodized clear.

Lots of interesting stuff about Sanshin is in the archives ...
