Gang,

When it comes to pumps, this is where old is unquestionably better than new. The new Silca pumps are pale imitations of the cast metal base original Silcas. The new 'copies' have plastic feet, which is where I've had all my pumps fail. Once the foot cracks, the pump is basically useless. The old cast iron base could never be broken.

Someone stole my Silca (New Yorkers, don't leave your pump in your building's bike room) and I now have a Topeak Joe Blow Pro which is a very nice pump and does have a handy Schraeder compatibility. Parts are available from Topeak and the pump, as far as I know can be totally rebuilt, but I have had no reason to do so.

Of course the Silca frame pump, which struggles mightily to reach 80 psi if it doesn't fail all together, is still the most beautiful pump ever made and graces most of my bikes. I just always make sure to ride with people who have OT pumps as a result.
