I'm not that familiar with Fondriest and its history (save that items I have seen are quite beautiful), but the on-topic era here is roughly 1984 and earlier. It's stated explicitly on the Classic Rendezvous website. One rule of thumb is that the cutoff was chosen by Dale the List Dad to identify the onset of indexed shifting and to exclude it. If your Fondriest frame has features that are intended to facilitate indexed shifting, such as cable stops on the headset at the downtube, it's probably too modern. But I don't think this is a general rule.
