Don't believe the hype!

Dennis will make me go to other bike shops and steal stuff for inventory.

Often times he'll tell me he's leaving for 5 minutes and I'll be left running the shop for the remainder of the day. Sometimes he'll wave to me from the window of the Chinese massage parlor across the street.

And if I trim the cables too short or too long on a bike, he'll punch me in the kidneys. His definition of too long/short is arbitrary, and changes from day to day.

Worst of all, every day he makes me disassemble and reassemble a Schwinn Bendix 2 speed coaster brake hub blindfolded. If I cannot complete the task in less than 1 minute, he cuts off a finger. It has gotten harder with only 3 fingers and 2 thumbs remaining.

Whatever kind words Charles Colerich shared with you all were coerced out of blackmail. I know this as I was the one who was forced to make the phone call and tell him that his Paramount was being held at gunpoint until he complied.

This bike is still being held hostage in Dennis' basement, as am I.

The address is 2320 Santa Clara Ave. in Alameda. It's cold and dark down here. I'm so thirsty. I want my mommy.

Please save me.

Charles and all,

Thanks for your kind words about my favorite local bike shop.

Dennis Stone, whose father opened Stone's in 1943, grew up in the business, making his own derailleurs and such "back in the day." It is amazing what "vintage" parts Dennis can provide out of the back, and he has some "private sources" for ordering vintage gear and compatible replacements, too. And his ability to fit frames to people is amazing....

There is a Schwinn triple bike in the window above the front door that dates back, I believe, to the 1950s: Dennis courted his wife, Ingrid, on that bike, with Dennis' dad captaining the bike. (Dennis and ingrid have been married more than 50 years.)

Stone's is usually open TU-SAT, but call if you want to make an appointment for times outside of his normal schedule:

Once again I paid a delightful visit to Stone's Cyclery (510) 523-3264 2320 Santa Clara Ave, Alameda, CA 94501 Map it | Get directions Cross Streets: Between Oak St and Park St.

The store has a great selection of steel lugged and filet brazed frames. A lot are currect builders like Bob Jackson, Waterford and others. Than high up are the gems on the third level rack, Eisentraut, Hetchins,Paramount, and more. The older parts selection is worth veiwing also

So when in the Bay Area and Alameda, CA take time to pay a visit. By bicycle is even better due the great old victorian homes on this island.
