I've done it with a Campy crank modified into a 74 mm bolt circle alpine triple (32 x 42 x 53) on a Raleigh Pro with a Rally long jockey cage on a NR rear derailleur. Worked really crappy, didn't like to pull it up to the middle ring. You had to get the chain to the big ring and drop it down. The front NR is supposed to be an excellent triple, and has worked well in the past with a fairly close ratio half step and granny (36 x 48 x 52). The rear derailleur back then was a standard record with a 14 - 26 straight step freewheel and worked well. With a 13 - 28 on the Pro and the long cage NR derailleur, shifts were slow, sloppy, imprecise and I switched it back to a standard double in no time. It looked really cool though!

Happy trails,

A couple of weeks ago there was a thread here describing a Rally rear derailleur someone refitted to a standard short cage by swapping cages.

Here's my question: Can you make a NR record into a touring derailleur by putting on Rally cages?

Any issues to consider? Is it a simple matter to swap them out?

Many thanks (as a relative newbie, let me say this is a great list).
