I agree the combination in the picture, using a Super Record cage, works well. But the one in the picture is not adjusted well. The upper pivot spring has too much tension in relation to the lower pivot spring, and thus the chain is being pulled away from the freewheel. It may be necessary to drill a few holes to adjust the spring tension properly.
Unfortunately, it is not that easy to properly balance the spring tension on this derailleur, but that is the secret to good shifting.
