In my opinion one of the scarcest parts from the 1960-1988 era among campagnolo spare parts, is the Campagnolo Pedal Dust cap (both plastic and metal versions.) Only Victory-Triomphe (with the square wrench flats) seem to be readily available at dealers.
MKS makes aluminum dust caps that fit Campagnolo pedals perfectly and they work with the Campagnolo pedal dust cap tool. At most dealers they cost about $3.00 - $4.00 PER CAP ($6-$8/pair.)
You can modify an anodized MKS pedal dust caps to resemble a chromed Campagnolo metal or plastic dust caps. It take about 20-30 minutes.
1. cover a drill bit with wads and wads of masking tape.
2. mount the dust cap, centered, on top of the masking tape.
3. turn on the drill, then either file away or use a dremel and flap wheel to remove the "MKS" from the end of the dust cap.
4. using a series of successive sand papers (400, 800, 1000, 2000, then nevr-dull or simichrome), polish the caps to a brilliant chrome-like shine.
5. for that 'extra' touch of authenticity, drill a small oiler hole in the end of the dust caps, just like a campagnolo cap.
6. remove the dust cap and file off about 1mm from the threaded portion so that it will seat fully on the campagnolo pedal. The MKS dust caps have a longer threaded portion than campagnolo caps.
This produces a very nice dustcap with a chrome-like shine and an oiler hole. You have to get within about 6 inches in order to tell that it's not "PATENT CAMPAGNOLO". In fact in many ways it's superior to an original campagnolo dust cap because it's stronger and more durable than plastic and it won't rust.
