My memory is that Reynolds was producing bicycle tubing at least by 1898; that they had a high-manganese tubing, or "H.M." circa 1918, if not earlier. Our much-beloved 531 (please join me in removing your hats when saying the magic number) was introduced to the market c.1935.

I don't have time (alas!) to dig around the archives, but it seems to me there was discussion of 20s and 30s British lightweights a while back complete with links to images of older "H.M." tubing transfers on some surviving bikes.

I'm sure our cousins across the water will have much more to add ...

Russ Fitzgerald Greenwood, SC, USA, who lives with bikes built of metric gauge 531, 531C, mixed 531C with a 531ST fork, 753/725 with a 531 fork, and one bike most likely built with Truwel tubing, which I think was also owned by Tube Investments at one point ...
