These shifters came with even longer slotted-head screws, 21mm long below the head, 13.5mm of which is threaded (1mm thread spacing).
After my first test ride I realize i won't need the ability to adjust these on the fly as with the Campy friction levers. I like Chuck Schmidt's suggestion of using button-head hex screws, so I'll buy a couple of those from Zeigler's on Monday.
This is the first time I've ever used the Simplex retrofriction levers, and I am amazed how nice they are. Wish I'd known about these back in the early 80s.

The screws (yes, slotted-head screws were original) for the Simplex Retrofriction shifters are different between the braze-on and band-mount sets. Simplex part # 3673 for the band-mount and #4286 for the braze-on. The bad-mount screws are 8mm long, and the braze-on screws are 17.5mm. I just checked, and both examples I have screwed into a Campy shifter boss just fine. I always though the screws were standard metric thread, and my examples seem to bear that out. Can't really comment on what others have experienced, but my samples came out of original Simplex parts bags. There are many pieces that fit both assemblies, but a few exceptions too.
Which, of course, brings me to the fact that I have many of the replacement parts for these shifter systems. Unfortunately, so far I've only found a very few of the longer, braze-on screws (4 actually), whereas I have dozens of the shorter screws. There are a few other gaps in the stock, such as the band-mount. I haven't found any of those, at least not yet. -- Wayne Bingham Lovettsville, Virginia USA
